A new parking-meter deal?

Emanuel & Co. should get creative to shed the millstone. Chicago can’t afford to stand pat for the rest of these 75 years.

New York City is exploring a deal to lease out its parking meters to a private company. As they say in the Big Apple, “Whattaya, nuts?” Don’t these Noo Yawkers know what happened in our patch of flyover country?

As it happens, New York is well aware of Chicago’s parking-meter lease debacle, and has no intention of making the same mistakes. Look for New York to prove that it’s possible to form public-private partnerships that benefit both sides, even for parking meters…Keep reading
